These Double Decker Christmas Cookies made with Pillsbury Christmas Cookies are a simple and festive dessert sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face at your next Christmas party!

Christmas time is the perfect time for hot cocoa and warm cookies, and putting together a festive dessert does not have to be difficult! If you’re tired of moving little elves and throwing candy at gingerbread messes, but still want to enjoy a magical holiday season, these cookies are a sweet idea.

It doesn’t take a pro to pull off this recipe. In fact, it’s almost impossible to mess it up, which makes it perfect for including helpers of any age. Just combine two types of pre-made dough to take this simple holiday treat to the next level.

The best part is Pillsbury has even done the decorating for you! Their classic holiday shape sugar cookie dough has cheerful designs that add just the right amount of Christmas spirit to this recipe.

The whole family can help with this recipe and it’s one everyone will enjoy too (make sure to also check out these Copycat Lofthouse Cookies for another festive treat)!

    Why Make This Recipe?

    1. Quick: There is hardly any prep time with this recipe. Just roll, stack, and throw in the oven. Use the rest of your time for caroling, gift wrapping and getting ready for Santa!
    2. Easy: This recipe does not call for measuring, mixing or really even any mess-making. Just put together some pre-made dough, set a timer, and be on your way. Much easier than trying to get a gingerbread house to stand.
    3. Adorable: Pillsbury’s Holiday Sugar Cookies feature adorable Christmas trees and snowmen that make it easy to add some magic to your holiday.

What Do I Need to Make This Recipe?

    Ingredients

Here is a visual overview of the ingredients in the recipe. Scroll down to the recipe at the bottom for quantities.

Ingredients shown that are needed to prepare pillsbury christmas cookies.
    1. Cookie Dough: Just two types of pre-made dough make the perfect dream team. You can find both Pillsbury and Toll House in your local grocery store. Just choose the design you prefer and get baking!

    Tools

    1. Cookie Sheet: Any cookie sheet will do. You can also cover your cookie sheet with parchment paper for easy clean up..

    Using your Own Dough

If you have a chocolate chip cookie recipe that you love, you can feel free to use it instead of Toll House. You could also sub in peanut butter cookie dough, oatmeal cookie dough, gingerbread cookie dough–whatever you want!

I just prefer to keep things simple by sticking with store bought. This time of year often calls for simplifying!

    How to Make This Recipe

    Step 1: Preheat your Oven

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Step 2: Assemble your Dough

Roll about two tablespoons of chocolate chip cookie dough into 20 balls. Place each ball onto your ungreased cookie sheet and flatten the top slightly.

Remove your Pillsbury Christmas Cookies from the package and place one uncooked sugar cookie on top of each chocolate chip cookie dough ball.

    Step 3: Bake your Cookies

Bake until the edges of your chocolate chip cookies are set, about 10-11 minutes. Leave the cookies on the cookie sheet for about five minutes before moving them to a cooling rack.

    Enjoy! Merry Christmas!

    Portioning your Dough

Close up of a single pillsbury christmas cookie just baked.

You can play around with the ratio of chocolate chip cookie dough to sugar cookie dough. I like to make large cookies so my recipe may call for more chocolate chip cookie dough than others.

Your portions don’t have to be exact but it is helpful to portion out all your chocolate chip cookie dough first to ensure you have enough for all of your sugar cookies. It’s very difficult to try to even them out later, once the sugar cookie dough is on top.

To ensure the design shows up well, try to make sure the dough underneath is nice and even. Sometimes the sugar cookie dough slides off the side of the chocolate chip dough and messes up the design!

    Expert Tips

Plate stacked full of Pillsbury Christmas Cookies.
    • Always place the best side of the sugar cookie dough facing up. You may notice as you take them out of the packaging that one side of the pre-cut cookies may be more smudged than the other. Keep an eye out for that!
    • You can adjust this recipe to make as many cookies as you’d like. Just make sure to always use 2 tbsp of chocolate chip cookie dough to one Pillsbury Christmas Cookie.

Can I Use a Different Cookie Dough?

The cookie dough on the bottom portion of this cookie can be any dough you like. You could try it with peanut butter cookies, mint chocolate, molasses–anything!

Some people feel like store-bought dough has an artificial flavor and prefer home-baked cookies. That’s ok! It’s just the simple Pillsbury Holiday Sugar Cookies on top that make it festive and easy.

Do I Need to Grease My Cookie Sheet?

You do not need to grease your cookie sheet but it’s always a good idea to double check the cookie dough packaging.
