Cream cheese filling and crushed Oreos are rolled into an egg roll wrapper, fried to perfection, and topped with powdered sugar! Think a mix between a fried Oreo and cheesecake…. You’re going to love it!

    Recipe Origins

Recently I redid a few photos for my (pretty popular) Chinese Egg Roll recipe. It’s been getting a lot of attention recently, so I decided it was time to give the photos a facelift.

But, after making the egg rolls, I realized I had a bunch of leftover egg rolls wrappers and no way to use them up!

It was time to get inventive.

Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, so why not try to make an out-of-the-box, crazy Valentine’s Day dessert?!

    Enter: Oreo Egg Rolls.

In this recipe, cream cheese filling and Oreos are rolled into an egg roll wrapper. They’re then fried to perfection and topped with powdered sugar for a crunchy-on-the-outside, creamy-on-the-inside treat. And they taste JUST like fried oreos, which is one of my very favorite street foods ever.

This recipe is now one of my very favorite dessert recipes on the blog, maybe even tying itself with my very favorite Strawberry Bread recipe! I can’t wait for you to try it out and let me know what you think.

    Why Make this Recipe

    1. A Unique Dessert: I love desserts that are different from what we’re used to. I spend a lot of time baking, and sometimes I get stuck in a rut where the same cookie or cake recipe doesn’t sound fun anymore. This recipe is a way to get you out of your rut and add a little ingenuity to your kitchen. It’s so fun making a fusion dish (especially when it tastes DELICIOUS!) If you’re looking for another unique Oreo dessert, check out these Oreo Cookies!
    2. Ready in 20 Minutes: Whether you’re making this recipe for Valentine’s Day, a summer party, or just because your sweet tooth hits, less time is almost always better when it comes to cooking. I love that I can have this dish from ingredients to my belly in about 20 minutes.
    3. Tastes Like a Fried Oreo: Have you ever had a fried oreo?!?! I’m gonna let this one speak for itself.

What Ingredients are in This Recipe?

    Labeled ingredient shot
    1. Standard Ingredients: Sweetened Condensed milk, Powdered sugar, egg
    2. Cream Cheese: Full fat, softened
    3. Oreos: I used the mini version of the regular flavor, and crushed them with a rolling pin.
    4. Egg Roll Wrappers: I got my egg roll wrappers from the frozen section of an Asian Grocery store. Make sure to leave the wrappers in the fridge the night before cooking so that they thaw.
    5. Oil: Vegetable Oil is what I used. You can also use sunflower oil or any other type of oil with a low smoking point.

    How to Make this Recipe

    Step 1: Make the Filling

Collage of making cream cheese filling

In a large bowl, use an electric hand mixer to beat the sweetened condensed milk, powdered sugar, and cream cheese together until smooth.

Collage of crushing oreos in a ziploc bag

Place the mini oreos in a plastic bag, and roll with a rolling pin until the Oreos are crushed into rough pieces (you don’t want them to be crumbs, but instead larger, rougher pieces).

Step 2: Wrap the Egg Rolls

Collage of laying cream cheese and Oreo filling in egg roll wrappers

Crack the egg into a small bowl and beat it with a fork. Set aside.

Lay an egg roll wrapper in a diamond shape, with one corner pointing towards you and one corner pointed away.

    Collage of wrapping egg rolls

About ⅓ of the way up the wrapper, place about 1 ½ tbsp of cream cheese filling (or more) in a horizontal line, leaving about ½” on the right and left sides. Sprinkle some oreo crumbs on top of the cream cheese filling.

Fold up the bottom corner to cover the filling and roll once. Wrap in the two side corners, then continue wrapping until you get to the final, far corner. Wet it with a bit of the beaten egg to hold it in place, then stick the final corner to the egg roll (see photos for clearer explanation).

Step 3: Fry the Egg Rolls

    Frying egg rolls in oil

Heat about 2” of oil until it’s hot enough that when you add an egg roll, it begins to fry immediately. Deep fry the egg rolls in batches, about 4 at a time, turning them so that they cook evenly… When they are brown and the wrapper has bubbled, remove them from oil and let them rest on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy!

    Expert Tips

    • Don’t forget to thaw your egg rolls wrappers the night before making your Oreo Egg Rolls!
    • You can also bake the egg rolls, though they will have a different texture. Place the oven to 400 and bake until they are toasted, turning every once in a while.
    • When rolling the egg rolls, place the rest of the wrappers in a sealed ziplock bag. You can also wet a paper towel and ring it out VERY well so that it’s barely damp, then cover the wrappers with this. This will make it so that the wrappers don’t try out and get fragile.
    • If you’d like to replace the cookie in the recipe with another option, you are welcome to do that! Another great choice could be nutter butters. Or just go straight to these peach filled version – Peach Cobbler Egg Rolls are worth making and sharing at your summer gatherings.
    • You can also melt chocolate chips in the microwave and drizzle some melted chocolate over the top of the dessert for some added decorative flair.

    Recipe FAQs

How Can I Heat Up Leftover Oreo Egg Rolls?

Pile of Oreo egg rolls with powdered sugar Oreo crumbles

If you have too many Oreo Egg Rolls, definitely don’t throw them out! Instead, save them in the fridge for up to 4 days until you’re ready to eat the leftovers.

To reheat, preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Wrap the egg rolls in aluminum foil and place in the oven for about 10 minutes until the egg rolls are warm.

Do not put the egg rolls in the microwave, as it will cause the outside to become soggy.

What Other Yummy Fillings Can I Put in my Egg Rolls?

Now that the world has opened up to include DESSERT EGG ROLLS it feels as though the possibilities are endless.

I’ve been experimenting with other varieties of dessert egg roll recipes that will come to the blog soon, but think Blueberry Cheesecake, Banana Split, and S’mores flavors…. Yes, it’s okay to drool.

Additionally you can add things like peanut butter, chocolate, marshmallow fluff, fruit. Honestly, anything your heart desires! It’s fried, so you know it’s going to be good.

Hi Dee, I would recommend freezing the egg rolls before frying if you think the recipe is going to make too many. Then allow them to thaw completely before frying.

Ohhh my these were so good! Only downside is that egg rolls in general are messy and a little time consuming to put together. The taste of these was worth the work though! The filling is perfect!
