This American Flag Fruit Pizza is in the shape of an American Flag, perfect for celebrating any patriotic holiday! It is made with store bought cookie dough for a simple recipe that will impress everyone at your celebration
If there is one absolutely perfect dessert recipe out there in the world, reader, I’m pretty sure it’s a Sugar Cookie Fruit Pizza. I had a dessert similar to this once when I was growing up at a neighbor’s house, and I have never been able to stop thinking about it!
They decorated their cookie to look like an American flag before a fun Fourth of July party. And with Fourth of July quickly approaching, I took those fond memories from childhood as inspiration to recreate the dessert!
You can use this recipe to celebrate the Fourth of July, but it would also be perfect for Memorial Day, Labor Day, Election Day, or any other America-themed party you are attending.
What is American Flag Fruit Pizza?
This American Flag Fruit Pizza is made by rolling out store bought cookie dough into a flat rectangle. The cookie is then coated in Honey Cream Cheese Frosting and then decorated with strawberries and blueberries to resemble the American flag!
Ingredients to Make American Flag Fruit Pizza
- Sugar Cookie Dough: I use store bought to make life a little easier, but you can also use homemade!
- Honey Cream Cheese Frosting: You can also buy store bought Cream Cheese Frosting if desired, but I truly recommend the homemade Honey Cream Cheese Frosting recipe that I’m using here. The flavor is out of this world delicious!
- Fruit: Strawberries for red, you can substitute raspberries. Blueberries for blue. The white on the flag is the undecorated stripes of the cream cheese frosting! If you want more fruit on your pizza, you can cover the white stripes with banana slices.

Step 1: Roll out the Dough
Roll out your sugar cookie dough into a 13×9” rectangle. Flour a surface and use a rolling pin to make this easier.
Step 2: Bake
Bake the sugar cookie dough for about 11 minutes until the edges of the cookie brown and the middle is cooked.
Step 3: Make the Cream Cheese Frosting
Mix together the butter, cream cheese, vanilla, honey, and powdered sugar until the cream cheese frosting is fluffy.
Step 4: Decorate the Cookie
Brush the cream cheese frosting over the cookie, then decorate with blueberries and sliced strawberries to make an American flag.
Expert Tips
- If you don’t want your creation decorated like an American flag, feel free to decorate it however you like, using whatever fruits sound good to you! You can also decorate this cookie to resemble other countries’ flags if desired.
- For extra decoration, you can add dollops of whipped cream in the white lines of the flag. This is best done if the cookie will be eaten right away, as the whipped cream tends to melt if not eaten right away.
- You can put the dough in between two pieces of parchment paper in order to roll it out into the right shape. You may want to also sprinkle some flour on the parchment paper beforehand to keep the dough from sticking.
Recipe FAQs
Because the fruit is already cut up on top of the cookie, the shelf life for this recipe is short. You can store the cookie covered in the fridge, and it will stay good for 1 more day.
If you want to elongate it’s self life, remove the fruit before storing and add new fruit when you want to enjoy it again. In this case, the cookie will last for 3-4 days.
Keep in mind that the cookie will continue to soften the longer it is in the fridge.
The first time I made this recipe, I overcooked the cookie dough a bit. When I removed the cookie from the oven, it was crunchy and crumbly.
However, after a few hours of sitting with the frosting on it, the cookie softened up!
If you overcooked your dessert, simply add the frosting and wait a few hours. The texture of the cookie softens over time, so you will be left with a soft cookie ready for you to enjoy.

American Flag Fruit Pizza
Equipment
- Rolling Pin
- Parchment Paper
- Cookie Sheet
- Mixing Bowl(s)
- Electric Hand Mixer
- Knife/Knives
- Rubber Spatula
- Cookie Sheet
- Oven Mitt
Ingredients
- 1 16.5 oz tube sugar cookie dough room temperature
- 1 8 oz block cream cheese softened
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter softened
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 15 strawberries sliced
- ½ cup blueberries
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Roll the dough out into a 13×9 inch rectangle on a piece of parchment paper. You can use flour to make sure that the dough doesn’t stick to the rolling pin. Once rolled out, transfer the parchment paper and rolled out cookie dough to a baking sheet.
- Bake for 11-15 minutes or until the edges are starting to brown and the middle is cooked.
- While the cookie is cooking, make the frosting. In a medium-sized bowl, use an electric hand mixer to combine the butter and the cream cheese until fluffy.
- Add the vanilla and honey and mix again.
- Add about ½ of the powdered sugar and use the hand mixer to combine it. Then, add the other half and mix until fully combined. Set aside.
- Remove the cookie from the oven and allow it to cool. Once cooled, use a knife to cut off any edges that expanded during baking so that you have a perfect rectangle again.
- Use a rubber spatula to spread the icing over the cookie.
- Then, use your blueberries to outline a blue square in the upper lefthand corner of the cookie. Fill it in with blueberries!
- Use the strawberry slices to make red stripes on the cookie.
- Cut into pieces and serve. Enjoy!
