Try this 15 minute, 4 ingredient, no bake dessert! Chex cereal is coated in chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar for the ultimate simple and delicious dessert.

Bowl filled with monkey munch and chocolate chips

I love a good, easy dessert (I’m also looking at you, Fairy Bread!), and this Monkey Munch recipe is about as easy as they come.

Also known as Muddy Buddies or Puppy Chow, Monkey Munch is a fast and simple dessert made by coating Chex cereal in chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. And while I do love all of these ingredients separately, this dish is greater than the sum of its parts.

It is sweet, a little salty, kinda crunchy and definitely a food that I can eat non-stop. Make this dish in about 15 minutes and put a bowl on your counter. Come back an hour later and you’ll be wondering where it all went!

    Why Make this Recipe

    1. No Bake: No Bake desserts (like these Gingerbread Truffles) are my favorite! No heat makes this recipe a great choice for making with kids.
    2. 4 Ingredients: And most of them you probably already have in your house!
    3. 15 Minutes: Baking is fun, but waiting hours until you can eat your final product is not! This recipe requires just a few minutes in the fridge to harden the chocolate and you’ll be enjoying your Monkey Munch Recipe in no time.

What Do I Need to Make this Recipe?

Here is a visual overview of the ingredients in the recipe. Scroll down to the recipe at the bottom for quantities.

    Labeled ingredient shot
    1. Chex Cereal: Rice Chex cereal.
    2. Peanut Butter: I use creamy peanut butter.
    3. Chocolate Chips: I use semi-sweet chocolate chips. You can also use milk chocolate or dark chocolate depending on your preference.
    4. Powdered Sugar

    How to Make this Recipe

Step 1: Coat the Cereal in Chocolate

Collage of chocolate being poured on chex cereal

Put the Chex cereal in a large bowl.

In a small, microwave safe bowl, add the chocolate chips and peanut butter together. Microwave the chocolate and peanut butter for 30 seconds, remove from the microwave, and mix with a spoon or fork.

Put the bowl back in the microwave and cook for another 30 seconds. Repeat again if necessary until the chocolate and peanut butter are melted together. Mix again to combine.

Pour the chocolate and peanut butter over the chex cereal and use a wooden spoon or rubber spatula to combine the cereal with the chocolate/peanut butter mixture.

    Step 2: Refrigerate

Once the cereal is completely coated, put the bowl in the refrigerator for 5-8 minutes until the mixture cools down but does not harden.

Step 3: Coat the Cereal in Powdered Sugar

When the chocolate has reached the right consistency, remove the cereal from the fridge and add the powdered sugar to it, ¼ cup at a time.

After each addition, mix the puppy chow with a rubber spatula until coated, then add the next round of powdered sugar. Keep mixing until the puppy chow is fully coated with sugar and the pieces appear white.

Put the mixture in the fridge for another 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
