    Why Make this Recipe

    1. Save Oven Space: Have you ever wanted to make some dinner AND a side and then you run out of oven space? Don’t forget about Thanksgiving, and trying to have everything on the dinner table all at once…. If you need to have dinner ready quickly, and don’t have time or room to do it all in the oven, these Instant Pot Sweet Potatoes are a GREAT option!
    2. Fall Apart Every Time: The amount of water and cook time in this recipe is the perfect combo for a fall apart sweet potato EVERY time! You’ll love how soft and smooth these sweet potatoes are!

What Ingredients are In This Recipe?

Ingredient shot that only includes Sweet Potatoes
    1. Sweet Potatoes: This recipe uses large sweet potatoes. This is very important, as the size of sweet potatoes affects the cook time of the potatoes. See below for further information on cook time. Also make sure to scrub the outside of your sweet potatoes before piercing them with a fork!

    How to Make this Recipe

Step 1: Prepare the Sweet Potatoes

A sweet potato with a fork next to it with poke holes in it

Use a fork to pierce the skin of your sweet potatoes.

Put the trivet in the bottom of the Instant Pot, and pour 2 cups of water into the pot.

Step 2: Cook the Sweet Potatoes

Set the timer to HIGH for 31 minutes. When the timer is done, allow for a 10 minute Natural Pressure Release.

Open the Instant Pot and enjoy!

    Expert Tips

    • Adjust the cook time based off of how large or small your sweet potatoes are. The largest sweet potatoes will take a cook time of 31 minutes. Medium sweet potatoes will take about 26 minutes and small sweet potatoes can be cooked for about 20 minutes.
    •  If you’d like sweet potatoes that have a little more structure, you can reduce the cook time by about 5-7 minutes per size.
    • If you open up the Instant Pot and wish that your sweet potato was cooked a bit more, feel free to put the lid back on the Instant Pot and cook for a few more minutes, depending on how much more cooked you would like them. If you do this, don’t forget to add about 2 cups more water into the Instant Pot, or you will be left with a burn notice (and those are no fun!)
    • Sweet potatoes, along with Instant Pot Creamed Corn, are my favorite Thanksgiving sides! Use this recipe to prepare for Thanksgiving 🙂

Actually, it is not necessary to prick holes in the sweet potatoes. I cook them about once a week, so speak from lots of experience.
