Dulce de Leche

Dulce de Leche, an Argentinian specialty, is a milk-based caramel. It can be eaten alone with a spoon, drizzled over ice cream, spread on toast in the morning, or even sandwiched between cookies!

Cook Time 1 hour 45 minutes

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 ¼ cups sugar
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  • Stir together milk, sugar, and baking soda in a larger pot than you think is necessary.
  • Once the liquid comes to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer on the stove for about 1.75 hours. Make sure to stir so that it does not burn, especially as you near the end.
  • After the dulce de leche is smooth, thick, and creamy, remove from heat.
  • Stir in the vanilla.
  • Cool before enjoying!
