The Ingredients!

Zigni is a popular lunch and dinner recipe in Eritrea, a country on the horn of Africa. Though the recipe takes some time to cook, it actually doesn’t take a lot of active work!

Heat the oil in a saucepan and add in the beef along with the seasonings and tomato paste.

Stir in the diced onions and can of tomatoes. Stir it and then cover the stew, allowing it to simmer for a couple of hours. 

Remove the cover, add in the butter, garlic and signature Berbere spices. Let it heat through before serving.
